First time builder here, trying to decide between:
A.) the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, or the Cryorig H7 (hear both are good)
or B.) the Noctua nh D-15
im not sure how much i want to overclock my i7 6700k cpu, maybe to like 4.5 or 4.6 ghz. (again, im a first time builder and know nothing about overclocking. if someone could also tell me how much i should overclock).
The Cooler Master 212 evo and the Cryorig seem to be great coolers for low price, however the noctua d-15 is obviously the beastly performance cooler and will do a much better job at cooling.
So, which one should I get? is the Noctua worth the extra $50-60? or will the 212 evo/cryorig h7 do me just fine?
if the noctua will keep my cpu a lot cooler then it seems to be worth it, doesnt it? or will they both keep my cpu the same temperature if im only overclocking 4.5ghz or so (again, i7 6700k at 4ghz stock), with the only con of the 212 evo being that itll be slightly louder. Any advice appreciated.

If looking to go with larger air coolers which may overhang the ram just be sure to go with lower profile memory. Something like corsair vengeance lpx or similar, ram with taller heat spreaders like the dominator platinum for example cause issues. The ram where the heat spreader is too tall will conflict with larger coolers like the nh-d14/15 among others. The cryorig h7 or h5 universal are designed not to interfere with ram. There are also other options in between a $30 budget air cooler and a $90 high end air cooler.

Case choice also matters, the larger coolers tend to be taller and require cases wide enough to fit them. A noctua nh-d15 isn't going to fit in a corsair spec01 case. The reeven justice gets pretty good reviews, performs...

Estimable
Choose between the H7 and the DH-15, they're both much newer coolers than the 212 and people seem to recommend them over the 212, as they have slightly better performance. According to some people the DH-15 performs like AIO water coolers, if they mean 120mm or 240mm etc I'm not fully sure. But I believe it is the most expensive out of the 3, and yields the best performance in cooling. Although, it is quite ugly, brown and a creamy peach colour. Ew.

I believe the Noctua, as you said is much more expensive, and the H7 probably yields really similar, but a little less performance.

I would recommend getting the H7 over the 212.

As said above, they may not be designed for overclocking an i7, but you could probably still squeeze a couple of hundred MHz out of it, this information may be wrong, but people can overclock things like a 6600K to 4.5GHz using the 212 Evo, so it could be :p

Edit: Glad you're staying away from AIO coolers, they are kind of pointless if you look at it, with fans such as the DH-15 being on par with them, and no chance of killing all your components.

Evidence? The 212 was around an helping OCing for 100+w processors, the 6700k is less than 100W so why are they not designed for the OCing. It's all about the dissipation of thermal energy.

The reeven justice gets pretty good reviews, performs similarly to a noctua nh-d14. Yellow may not be an optimal fan color so aesthetics come into play as well. The fan may not be as high quality as noctua's fans but it's also a $42 cooler, less than half of an nh-d15.

It resulted in temps 1c away from the nh-d15 cooling an oc'd i7 4770k and just 2c hotter than aio water coolers like the glacer 240l/280l, nepton 280, h105 etc. Noise levels were lower than the nh-d14.

overcklocked and overvolted i7 is easily reaching 150watt under load.
212 is not bad, it's just noctua is significantly better.

4.5-4.6 shouldn't require that, and yes the noctua is better.

95W processor overclocked, in the top 10 at that time, it's still physically the same, the laws of physics haven't changed, doesn't make it 'not designed for overclocking' just means that there is better out there.
