just got my i7 5820k and was going to buy a mobo. i was looking at the cheaper ones like the gigabyte at 130-150. any thoughts or reason to get a higher up one or are they all the same and i am just paying for bells and whistles

Solution
X99 boards are all expensive but yes there are more expensive ones because they offer more and if you are interested in paying for that additional quality then you pay more, otherwise if you just want to rock an intel extreme platform a more budget orientated X99 suffices with enough features to keep you happy.

This is a matter of what are your needs. If you want to clock adn want rainbows flowing out the system then get a ROG level board, if you are just happy to plug and play without seriously OCing or don't need M.2's etc then get a more budget friendly setup.
