HDD Not Showing Up In BIOS or Device Manager

I have just recieved my 3rd replacement Seagate 3TB HDD, and it was all working well for about 1-2 weeks. Then, I needed to plug in my internal optical drive, but as one of my PSU power cables got shorted out, just the plug, I needed to unplug my SSD. I did that, and then when I was done, I put everything back to the way it was before.

I booted my PC, but my hard drive was not working. I checked the connections and it doesn't show up.

To test cables and MB, I have a red SATA cable that works with my SSD. I use that for my HDD and it doesn't show up in BIOS. I also tested the power cables.

Sometimes my HDD will show up in BIOS, but then it takes a lot longer for Windows to boot, and the HDD will dissapear after some time. This can't be dead as well, right? What are the chances?

Thanks :)

Hi there NateBeast,

Unfortunately, taking into account all the things you've tried and the fact that you get longer boot times when the HDD is attached, I would say that the HDD is most probably failing/has failed.

At that point, my suggestion would be to attach the drive to another computer. See if the issue persists. In case it does, you can contact the manufacturer.

I've replaced this drive 3 times! The first one broke after 2-3 weeks. The second one broke after 4 weeks and now the third one breaks after 1-2 weeks? This drive was "Recertified" however, so maybe that's why, but Seagate supposedly returns the drive to normal condition. How am I supposed to get a working HDD? I can't sell this one, and all I can do is ship it to Seagate and get a new drive, but that one will probably break as well...

Well, that is really strange.
Once you get your other drive, you can attach it with different cables (especially power one) to another SATA port. Make sure you run some brand specific diagnostic tool on it, as soon as you install it.

This is not the issue, as the power cables work for my SSD, which was even plugged in at the time.
