So I have a system with the following specifications:

CPU: Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66Ghz (Quad)

RAM: 6gb

GPU: GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 EVGA

Would this GPU bottleneck with the CPU? Would overclocking make the bottleneck less if there is one? If there is a bad bottleneck, what's the best GPU for gaming/this processor?

Thanks!

Solution
It depends on the game, a more cpu demanding game the more the cpu will hold it back. The less cpu demanding the less it will hold things back. Overclocking it will only help so much. It's still a 10yr old processor and with each generation comes with it around 5-10% ipc improvements making 2.6ghz in today's speeds physically faster than 2.6ghz from back in 2006.

Overclocking it might reach 3ghz with plenty of cooling which is still somewhat slow by today's standards where 3.5-4ghz is the norm. A modern day i3 6100 dual core with hyper threading has around double the single core performance and 25% more multi thread performance.

The 960 should do fine with it but will depend on how graphically intensive the game is. Is it full of...

Solution
The answer is yes and no.
It is game dependent including it's settings (resolution, details, etc.)
QX6700 could be a bottleneck on some games and not on other games.

On the other hand,
QX6770 is already only slightly above minimum requirements for new heavy AAA games e.g. GTA V.
I would not pair any GPUs stronger than GTX750Ti with any C2Q or C2D anymore. well...GTX960 is still ok too...I guess
Yes, OC can reduce the bottleneck but do not expect much, LGA775 platform is simply already too old.
You should plan to build a new rig or do a big overhaul (proc, mobo, RAM).
