How to make the partitions?

I have a 120gb SSD where I install my windows and a 1tb HDD, and I don't know if you leave it on one partition for games, music, movies, and so on. Or to make a partition for games and another one for music, movies, downloads. I heard keeping the HDD with no partition will affect the speed of it because it has to read from 1tb instead of 500 gb, as I would make split it in half. Thanks in advance.

What type of HD do you have? It still has to spin around the whole disc, so making a a partition for speed purposes, isn't going to help. Just format the HDD as normal, and start putting games and data up there.
It is much simpler to manage space with one single partition.
In addition, it will perform better.
Files will be allocated first on the slightly faster outer cylinders of the drive.
Moving between different files will be relatively efficient because the access arm does not need to move much.

Then, if you have divided into two 500gb partitions, you are guaranteeing much wider arm movement distances and higher latencies.

For performance, use a ssd.
ssd is now much cheaper per gb.
You could buy a 500gb Samsung evo.
Their free ssd migration utility will move your "C" drive.

Use the hard drive for large sequential files such as videos and backups where the cost per gb is better and the penalty for latency is less.
