I'm looking back at my old PC and I have come to realise that it won't connect to the internet unless I plug in this Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Adapter. Is there a reason for this or does every PC have one of these? I am building a Gaming PC soon so I am wondering If i need this little USB, thanks

Well your current PC doesn't have wireless built in (as most desktops don't), and if you don't have an ethernet cable from your home router to plug into your PC, that USB adapter is the only way to get internet on your PC.

For your future gaming PC you can use that USB, buy a new one, buy an internal WiFi card like

Or you can run an ethernet cable from your router to your PC.

The ethernet cable is the best choice for speed and reliability.

Thank you for this well informed reply. I will be looking at an internal Wi-Fi fard as my router is directly downstairs. So as for my Future Gaming PC, would it still connect to the internet without any of these adapters?

Unless you use a direct ethernet cable connection (which your motherboard will have, but you need the cable going to your router) no you cannot connect to the internet without a wifi adaptor.

When building your PC there are a few motherboards out there with built in WiFi, you may consider buying something like that, but they do tend to be pricey, a simple $30 adaptor like I linked will do the same.
