Windows 7
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
128gb ADATA SSD boot drive
1tb WD caviar black HDD media drive
Just added:
1tb Samsung 850 SSD

Until adding new (samsung) drive both WD and ADATA worked fine, now PC detected and installed Samsung but lost the WD, ADATA is unchanged.

I swap sata 6gbs chords between Samsung and wd, no detection on the WD but Samsung pops right up. I swap ports, no change, WD gone, Samsung reappears like a champ.

(Surely the untouched power chord coming from the wd wouldnt have been affected or need checking?)

Rebooted multiple times, hoping the WD will at least appear in bios, I search under 'Advanced', 'SATA Configuration to see if its there, its gone. I've enabled all my SATA ports in bios... I'm starting to look into jumpers for the WD but from what I've gleamed so far this concerns older mobo's not my very new one.

Did I fry it? How did I NOT fry the Samsung in the process? Nobody seems to have this same issue as me. Is there something to attempting to have 3 drives now instead of 2 that windows doesn't like?
I've had my SATA settings to AHCI mode since I've made this PC, some recommend trying IDE mode? I'm pretty unskilled at this stuff, don't want to jeopardize my remaining data.

Also in SATA Config in BIOS the 'Hot Plug' list only shows the Samsung and its at the top while in my mobo its in the 3rd SATA 6bs (red) port. My ADATA isn't showing but does in windows, along w the Samsung but no wd, not even in disk management.

Mono had 8 ports 4 black 4 red
I believe the red are faster 6gb/s ports and the black are 3 GB/s

ADATA is in and working from very first lower red port (stacked in twos)

Samsung works from any port... WD doesn't work from the ports that work w the Samsung. I really don't want to lose it, I was careful on the install... If anything I could see zapping the new ssd somehow but I hardly touched my HDD.

Many thank you's ahead of time from anyone who might help!
Thank you thank you thank you!

Welcome to the community, @Fitins!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your connectivity issues with the WD Black! :( You have done a great job with the troubleshooting so far, but I'd also recommend you check how the Black HDD will get recognized if you connect it to another PC as well. Make sure you look at the BIOS, Device Manager and Disk Management to check if it will pop up anywhere. This will help us determine what could be the source of the issue. If the WD Black still fails to get properly detected, you should definitely try using a SATA-to-USB cable with an AC adapter or a docking station/enclosure to connect it externally via your USB ports. As soon as you gain access to its contents, backup all your important data from it somewhere else! This is how you will avoid any potential data loss.

If the problems are still present though, check the WD Black drive's warranty status here to see if it's still covered. You should be able to send an RMA request and get a replacement from our Customer Support.

Hope this helps you. Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!

Thanks so much for responding super soph! I think I've diagnosed the issue finally and unfortunately its my mobo...

The WD does show up on friends PC like you suggested I try! What's more as of yesterday now my water cooler failed and then my 128gb boot drive was missing, (a2) error on mono relates to boot drives I believe...

I am taking my PC into a service store today to see if in fact my mobo is messing up and or to have a pro make sure everything is there like it should be! Haha

Thanks again Super Soph!

Edit: Will follow up with what I hear from my service people
