Hi there folks.

I feel like a total noob but I just purchased the Bose Computer MusicMonitor for my desktop but any audio jack I connect it to does not work (just get static through the speaker). When I review my playback devices the speakers do not even appear in the list.

Help?

Solution
Use the green audio jack on the rear of your PC.
If you have the right drivers, you may get a popup asking what you have plugged in.
The drivers should come from the motherboard manufacturers website.

This has nothing to do with the HDMI output on your graphics card.
You need to select the correct audio device as default, which in this case sounds like "headset" if that's all you have.
When you use a 3.5mm audio jack, the speakers are not an audio device.
The audio device is the one with the 3.5mm jack, e.g. your motherboard audio chipset or sound card.

If you are using the on board audio, try the connections at the rear of the PC rather than the front audio connectors which rely on a cable from your motherboard inside the case.
The audio device should be something like VIA or Realtek High Definition Audio.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried to connect the 3.5mm jack to all audio connectors both front and back. I am using the on-board audio (no sound card) and no matter which connector I plug into all I hear is a little fuzz/static.

In my playback devices all I have listed is my Headset (default device) and NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 0-3)....The HDMI Outputs are listed as "not plugged in" if that helps in this mystery....

Really at a loss as to what may be wrong. Any other ideas?

Thanks again!

Edit: I have tested the speakers on my laptop and they are functioning. I have also updated all drivers. I wonder if it is an issue with the MoBo itself? If it is, could a USB audio adapter such as the below be a temporary solution? https://www.amazon.ca/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8
