Hi, playing BF1 on all four cores, want to play with 8 threads, not a clue how to do it! Also my temps are between 75-85, with standard heat sink (thermal paste too), all stock clocks, anyone recommend a decent aftermarket cooler, will look to pay £80 max, but my case isn't big enough for watercooling if anyone was preparing that suggestion, thanks guys!

Solution
Take a look at the Corsair H60 and H80i AIO coolers. They both have a 120mm radiator meaning they are compact little coolers that boast great cooling capabilities.
You shouldn't have to do anything to enable hyperthreading (it's ordinarily enabled by default). Check the task manager, under the "performance" tab (under windows 10, right click and select "logical processors"). You should see eight CPU charts (one for each thread).

The game or application is written to work with a certain number of threads. You generally get no control over this.
You should see 8 CPU cores in task manager. If you only see 4, check in the BIOS settings that hyper-threading is enabled.

Coolermaster Hyper TX3 EVO is a good budget cooler.
Noctua NH-U12S is better quality, but more expensive.

you're right! I was running afterburner and forgot to select the other cpu's 5-8 on the OSD! Would you say 80 degrees is dangerous for 4790k?

TCASE should not be above 74 degrees.

What cooler are you using? If you can afford it a AIO cooler such as the H110GTX will keep the 4790k around 40C-50C under load with ease. The CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo is also a really good air cooler if you cannot afford an AIO.

I'm using intel's stock heatsink! I have a really small case, with an ATX mobo even an ITX GPU, so desperately need a smaller efficient cooler
