Should 2 routers connected together have the same network IP?

Hello, so I bought a new router (tl-wr940n) and connected 1 of the lan ports to a wan port of another router and connected the wan port of the router I bought to the modem. I set the routers IP as 192.168.1.252 and the other router has an address of 192.168.1.254. Should they be in different network if I connect the lan port of my primary router to the secondary one? Like I don't have access to my secondary one so should I change my primary router to something like 192.168.0.1?

Your primary router should be left alone. The one you plug into it needs to have DHCP disabled. If they are both trying to control the network you aren't going to get anywhere. When you use a router like that you are essentially turning it into a switch.

If they are both wireless you will need to have the second one set up as a repeater or extender, if possible.

As of right now they are on the same network. Don't give them the same IP address it will conflict. Are you saying you cannot access the console on the second router?

Also you must make sure the IP addresses are within the same range as your network will be, and on top of that, that DHCP doesn't hit them (ie set your address range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.250)

I don't have access to the second router indeed because in the terms of service of my ISP, they don't want us to mess with the configurations of borrowed equipments meaning that I can't disable DHCP on the second one unfortunately. And I know they are on the same network, but what I wanted to know what if they should be. Since I've been having troubles with it I thought maybe my primary router should be in a different network.

To be more precise (if you got lost) I have 1 modem, 1 router that I own and another one the ISP owns. My router is in between the ISP router and modem. The wan port of the modem is connected to the WAN port of my router and 1 of the lan ports of my router is connected to the WAN port of the ISP router. That's my current setup.

Also, I must say that I do not get an IP for WAN configurations for my router. Once I click on ''save'' or ''renew'' I get 0.0.0.0 for WAN IP address, subnet mask and for the default gateway and the wan connection type is set to dynamic IP. The routers MAC has also been cloned from the ethernet Ethernet card of my PC (which I do not use because I have a wifi usb adapter that I use. Should I clone the mac of the wireless adapter instead?)

Thank you.

I found my issue... It was something so ridiculously trivial. The IP addresses were fine, so were the connections and all. I just had to unplug and re-plug the modem and router. I don't know which one, but one of them needed to like reset so the other can read the IP or whatever. Now it works really well and I'm getting full internet speed.

Thanks for the help anyways.

I definitely could, but I have a plan that includes internet + phone. And the routers with phone ports are expensive, so I just bought a normal router for 47$ CAD and connected the wan port of my ISP router to 1 lan port of my router and the phone works. Like that I get control of my network without compromising on the phone.

Hey man... First of all in your primary router you need to disable DHCP, which will make you to assign different IP. We can call it as a bridged network.
for eg: router one IP can be 192.168.1.10
router two IP can be 192.168.1.20
Be careful if you don't change your primary router IP address then we will be directed to another router's IP address..

I've found another solution. Both routers with DHCP can work if they are not of the same network e.g: 192.168.1.X or 192.168.0.X and I put a static IP for the WAN of the second router so that it does not change IP and allowed I also put the second router in DMZ since it had its own firewall and I could not change the configuration of the second router.
