Build- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vJH92R

I hear that xmp profiles mess up some peoples systems.... I dont know why this is but I was wondering if anyone knew that using the xmp would work fine with my build. If it has issues do I just manually set frequency, timing, and voltage? If so how ?

One other quick question....
How do I check temps of cpu when I oc stuff like dram... what temps are normal for my cooler and would I have to oc cpu to say 4.4-4.6 for this ram to work its best.

Please note im not planning to oc dram anymore than advertised 3000mhz

Thanks for helping this newbie!

Solution
Not all RAM comes with an XMP however it should be selected in Bios if your DIMMs have it.
XMP is an extended or extreme memory profile developed by Intel to provide the Frequency and Primary Timings to allow for performance. Without setting this your Bios would default to the official standard that your MB supports.
Your G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 come with XMP
The Bios for your MB would allow you to select your XMP however this has to be set manually.
CPUz will provide all info you need for SPD Timings and voltage of you RAM.
HWMonitor will provide temperature ,Voltage readings when OCing and AIDA64 is an excellent package for stress testing your system.
Also bear in mind that 3000MHz RAM is considered an OC...

Thanks so much for this info, however with this xmp will I have to oc the intel i7 6700k for the best performance?

Well your CPU is certainly capable of OCing being a "K" version and obtaining best performance in conjunction with your XMP profile. Your XMP profile is not directly dependent on the OC you choose.

XMP and CPU overclocking are different. XMP is selecting a profile that overclocks memory. If you don't use XMP, you would need to manually change the timings for the ram to match what speed you want it to run at. XMP just makes it easier if the Profile is recognized.
Motherboards will most likely default to the rated speed of the ram or at least the highest it recognizes. Whether you overclock the CPU or not, it shouldn't affect it.
