I recently picked up the Sennheiser PC350 SE Gaming Headset and I was thinking about getting a DAC. The FiiO DAC only has 1 headphone jack in the front but the PC350s have a headphone and microphone jack. I was wondering if I could use the headset adapter it came with and plug that into the headphone jack of the DAC in the front. Will the mic still work?

internal soundcards do not necessarily interfere with the pc. in fact, they have less interference than using onboard and have a quality increase. with that said externals normally have less emi issues since they are outside the case but still since they connect via usb there can be issues if you have usb interference and are still able to be affected by external emi sources. so its not really a win-win situation.. both are about equal in the large picture.

they do make external soundcards as well. things like the creative omni. those accept mic and headphone.

not saying the e10k is a bad choice, its a good piece of hardware. it just is for headphone only so for mic you will need to use an extension cable and go to your pc.

If you plug in your headphones to the DAC and the mic seperatly into your computer that should not affect anything, the mic does not have to connect to the DAC for the DAC to work.

headphone dac/amp units only output stereo sound and have no provisions for microphone.

if you want to use the mic, you will have to plug that cable into the pc and the headphone portion into the dac/amp.

is there a reason why a soundcard will not work for you? most people want virtual surround sound as an option and a soundcard would give you better quality mic input than onboard anyways.

I'd prefer using an external sound card due to personal preference and I've heard that internal sound cards can interfere with the PC. Also, the two cables are kind of conjoined really closely together so I would have to tape the DAC under my table or something but I think that's too much work.

Get an extension, or, taping it under your desk may not be a bad idea, that is what I did personally
