So, I just built my first pc. Better and easier than I ever expected! I did make one mistake though. I put a gigabyte b150 in and it only has one system fan connection! I have found splitters but don't want to use them. Ivery got Intel 6700k 1151chipset and ddr4 ram. My question and request for guidance is this: can I swap the gigabyte out to an asus z170? What steps should I take. From my understanding all of my hardware is compatible( fury hyperx ram, asus 1070 graphics card, Samsung Evo 850 1TB SSD, 2 toshiba 5TB HD) running Windows 10. This system is 1week old lol and it's driving me crazy I can't run all my fans and monitor them lol. Literally the only change I want to make is the motherboard, any ideas?

If your going to migrate your drive and OS to the new mobo, it's a bit more complicated than that simplistic answer ;) to prepare for the move make backups of all your data files and ensure Win is up to date. Then simply put the new rig together hook up the hard drive as is and give it a shot. Win will take a look at whats there and install default drivers for the new hardware, and hopefully will go into Win (works about 90+% of the time. Next download and install the latest drivers for the mobo, starting with the chipset drivers. Then run a good registry cleaner (Wise has a good free version). Then Win will prob call for reactivation - though not always. Reactivate and you are up and running

Windows is updated, just set it all up this last Sunday. I've been wanting to do the whole "make an image" to external drive but (don't laugh to hard) having difficulties finding the right menu for that. My last computer was 2005 a laptop that I burnt up in less than a year. I've been using smartphone since 2010 and just jumped in to this (after many hours and hours of youtube vids) wanted to make my daughter a gaming rig and have good video editing capabilities. I've been editing youtube videos with my s7. So in other words I'm not super savvy with pcs quite yet and your patience and help is much appreciated!

I do have the disc and key to Windows and filmora. I don't think I used any other keys. Maybe the Canon printer?? Will windows be able to figure out the HD that has all my pics/vids on it? Should I copy all of that onto and external disc also.

Thank you kindly! I'm going to go for it. ASUS Z170-A ATX DDR4 Motherboards https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012NH05UW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_GP1pybV848H9K is this a good board for me. Again my hardware is GeForce 1070, Intel i7 6700k and 2 16GB fury hyperx stiicks (32GB) captain 240 liquid cooler (still in box) and the evolution 850 ssd. I'll leave yall alone after this and let you know how it goes. Any suggestions on a different board speak up now bc I have not hit buy now yet

I just answered based on he wanted to change out the motherboard. I did not know he also wanted hard drive... Anyways, the way I do it is that I would download a program to get my windows key out of the registry and then deactivate windows using cmd. Then I would download windows 10 iso onto a disk unless you already have it. Then put the motherboard in and connect everything including the drives. Install windows and then put it the key to activate it. If it doesn't work, call Microsoft and explain to them what is happening and they will help you out. I have done with 2 times successfully. Oh ya, make sure you back up your information before doing this, lol.

Everything went well. Had one issue, wouldn't boot/show on monitor. Took out cmos battery for a minute put it back in and bingo. Lost 0 data off drives, but I did make backups just in case. Thank you guys. Cinebench gave cpu score of 1028 then 1019?
