I have a WD 500GB blue. Whenever it runs, there is sometimes a vibrating sound coming from the optical drive. Keep in mind this sound does not occur all the time when the drive is running. If I apply slight pressure to the optical drive, the vibrating sound stops. I am using the Deepcool Tesseract SW Red case. What should I do to stop this rattling sound?

Hey there again, @Birdhouseman104!

Unplugging the optical drive from the system shouldn't affect its performance. You do have a custom PC build, right? Since the CD-ROM was not pre-installed by an OEM it shouldn't void the warranty on the system, this basically gives you a green light to unplug that particular hardware without any fatal consequences. Just check if these strange rattling noises disappear once the CD/DVD-ROM is disconnected.

Good luck! :)

Hey there, @Birdhouseman104!

In addition to what @smorizio mentioned, I'd advise you to check all the connections inside your PC rig and make sure that both the CD-ROM and your WD Blue HDD are properly mounted inside. There shouldn't be any loose screws as they could cause extra vibration which leads to these strange noises. However, you should better be safe than sorry and back up all your important files from the WD Blue somewhere off-site and make sure that you have a duplicate of the files elsewhere to avoid any potential data loss. If reseating the connections and the hardware doesn't help with the noises, let us know. You mentioned that it happens only when there's a disk in the CD-ROM, right? If you have access to another working PC, you could try putting the CD-ROM there and check how it would perform.

Keep us posted.

Will check the screws. I have actually only used the optical drive once for installing the OS. Do you think it would be okay to unplug the optical drive and remove it from the case? Thanks for the amswer!
