I bought two Sandisk SSDs for my dads and my own laptop. I finished cloning my HDD to the new SSD on my laptop but ran into a problem when doing my dad's. When formatting the SSD it always shows up as RAW in Disk Management and the drive is unable to be used.

I plugged the drive into my laptop, deleted it and re-formatted it and it worked fine on mine but it just won't format correctly on his laptop for some reason.

His laptop is a few years older then mine but it's still running Windows 8 so it's not too old.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

make sure the drive and laptop firmware and bios is up to date. on your dad laptop check the chipset used on the mb. the intel z77 was the first chipset to be able to see ssd and use them. some of the older x58 and amd chipset may have issues.

Sounds about right. It's a pretty old AMD laptop. Thanks for the help!
