EVGA GTX 1080 or Asus GTX 1080 Strix?

I'm need opinions on which one I should choose as it's a good deal of dinero and I want to make as informed as decision as possible. I have used the 'EVGA GTX 980' in the past and had trouble with it working correctly with two full replacements, and when I got one that worked fine it had pretty hideous coil whine (I could hear it through the Design R4 case). I have never tried an Asus card, but I've bought the Maximus VIII Formula MOBO and the Strix looks to perform just as well as the EVGA card. Is there any drastic difference between the two cards from people who've used them? Please be as objective as possible.

Thanks ;)

ASUS Strix... it has a higher clock speed, a higher thermal throttle threshold (90C vs EVGA's 70-75C) and much better cooling. It also has a 0dB fan setting that saves the lifespan of your card fans by not enabling them until the card reaches 53-55C.

I have one, and even under the most grueling circumstances the heat has not gone above 66C in any scenario. Lower end games keep it around 40-45C, so the fans don't even need to spin. Idle is roughly 29-34C depending on ambient.

I also have the same motherboard as you. The two perform amazingly together and the software is excellent and easy to use.

I would go with the ASUS, just because there were some pwm temperature issues with some EVGA GTX1080 (article link: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/evga-addresses-geforce-1080-temperature-problems,32967.html)

The Strix will run cooler, but it is overpriced with the exception of the stock clock one generally.
I personally won't go without EVGA after buying a FTW this generation, their service and support is spectacular, and they go out of their way with support, their step up program for upgrading, as well as paying two way shipping and supplying replacements, swapping cards over when their delivery reaches your door so you're not left two weeks without a graphics card.
Still runs quiet and cool while overclocking like crazy. :p

Thanks for all your informative, objective replies! I decided to go with the Strix as I thought matching it to the Maximus Formula would be the better aesthetic choice as it seems both companies have produced comparatively similar cards in terms of real world performance, so why not go for what looks neater. One other thing to note is that I went for the A8G over the O8G as that is £100 more expensive on Amazon, which seems completely insane to me, and presumably the A8G will overclock to match the performance of that card anyway.

It's almost time for Geralt of Rivia to meet 1080 of Asus . . .

Thanks again for your help ;)
