let me quick straight to the chase. My current computer is trash & i wanna upgrade it.

Current Specs:

Case: Antec 900 (case is really <mod edit> in my opinion & falling apart)

A8-5500B @4.0GHz (Base Clock OC)

8GB DDR3 Ram OC - 1079MHz

HD 6970

I was looking to upgrade to the following :

Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01

i7-3770K (or the 2600k but i feel like its a bit outdated)

GTX 1060

12GB Ram (I have 12 GB but i can only install 8 because my current motherboard only has 2 DIMM slots & the other 4GB of ram is 2x2GB 1333 MHz sticks)

also thanks in advance for the help

$400 is likely a little low for a new CPU+Mobo+GPU (even looking at a 3770K)

What's the intended use of this machine? Assuming gaming, an i3-6500, H110 board, 8GB DDR4 & a 1050I would be a huge improvement in performance, a very capable machine, puts you on the latest generation and would come in right around budget:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($191.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($37.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($47.98 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card ($139.99 @ Amazon)...

To the question at hand - do you have a budget?

I wouldn't invest in either a 2600K or 3770K unless they're available to you pretty cheaply. Jumping ahead to Skylake i5-6500 or even 6600K for gaming would be a phenominal improvement, and will last a long time. While the 3770K (and to a lesser extent the 2600K) are still somewhat relevant, I wouldn't recommend investing in them in late 2016. If you already had one, that's one thing, but you don't. Look to the latest gen.

the only used part would've been the i7 2600k that i was thinking about getting which is around $150 on eBay. The 3770k is a lot more and i was trying to have a budget around $400

The 6500 will last a long time (a few GPU upgrades at least), while the 1050TI is a solid 1080p GPU.

Thank you for the build. My intentions are gaming but i don't play much games. i really only play GTA IV (its old but i like modding it), GTA IV:EFLC, GTA V, American Truck Simulator, MGSV:TPP, & COD:MWR
