i have a dell optiplex 360 pentium dual core, that i want to put into a new case, however the rest switch and power on and hdd cables seem to have a old cable where they are all in one, is there a converter connector that i could buy

your service manual for your computer is https://www.manualslib.com/manual/553815/Dell-Optiplex-360.html
use it.. it will help you transitioning to a "standard" case

now I have done this a number of times and you must be aware of a few things
1) The Power Supply in your dell will more than not properly mount into a new case so you will probably need a new one.

2) USb connector, Power connectors and such will work with new case. just use the diagrams to help you through the connections

3) the cables for HDD and CDROMs will be a little challenge, and if your not looking to upgrade anything for this system you will be able to find longer cables to solve your ide cabling issues.

4) length of power cables for devices should be solved with new power supply.

5) when fitting case look at the mounting pins inside the case (what hold the motherboard in place), usually set for mini-ATX boards, where your board will more than likely be a full size ATX board. MAKE SURE NONE that are unaligned with a hole remain... remove them.

6) the board I see in the manual seems to have the old IDE and SATA connectors, I would use the sat connectors and run a newer drive than the old ide ones. (that again may be an upgrade for you)

Thank you for your answer, the new case has lots of leads, hdd, reset switch, power on ect, the motherboard on the 360 does not have these types of connections, just thick grey wires that go into one block, the internal speaker slot is also different

Yes that is true that Dell boards will have to be wire a little differently wityh a new case, but its only a matter of knowing where the HDD LED, POWER LED, POWER , RESET wires in new case connect on the old motherboard ( did you trace the old case wires for power button etc before pulling it apart ? (best way to know)
I did find some hints on this page of the manual and the one before this descptions page,m you will see https://www.manualslib.com/manual/553815/Dell-Optiplex-360.html?page=16#manual

11 Reset button
16 System Speaker
not seeing a power button though, but likely integrated into the 4 pin connect #2

It's the grey cable has 4 cables that plugs into the front panel, that leads to the motherboard that's confusing me, how am I going to connect the new wires from the new case, must be some kind of adaptator out there, looked on google but don't know what it's called, any ideas how to keep this simple

90% of prebuilts like dell hp and who ever use propritory parts motherboards bios's cases like dell and there BTX motherboard kick..

they build and sell whole ready to use computers and don't care about you upgrading them . that's not how they make there money . they prefer you go buy the ''better'' latest ready to go model.

now you could find a junk case and get the correct connectors off it or buy some

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14520/ele-955/FrozenCPU_ConnectRight_2-pin_Male_Female_Motherboard_Power_Connector_-_Black.html?tl=g51c395s1019

then trace each wire to what it goes to cut the dell ends off and replace with the correct needed

the wire comes out of the connector from where the wire goes in to it take a pin slide it up inside just righr and it will push down the ''latch'' and gently pull the wire out of the connector and slid it in to the new one ?

that's the best I can tell you

good luck
