Hi, I have the following build:

- AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
- Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
- ASRock 970M PRO3 Micro ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard
- Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
- PNY Quadro K620 2GB Video Card
- BitFenix Phenom M Midnight Black MicroATX Mini Tower Case
- Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
- Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Additionally I have 1 Fan intake at the bottom, and one Fan outlet at the top.

I use it mainly for CAD, Adobe editing and rendering (Vray).

AMD Overdrive:
Idle Thermal Margin is about 53 C
While Rendering Thermal Margin is at 7 C

Speedfan:
Idle CPU temperatures are around 36-40 C.
But When rendering the CPU reaches 80 C or sometimes even above.

Is this not too much?
I was hoping the Noctua NH-D15 would do a better job..
Also, I haven't really figured out a way to control the fans yet.
Maybe it's just my impression, but I feel they could all increase their speed by a lot when stressing the CPU.

Any tips on what I am doing wrong here?

Many Thanks!

Hi mjslakeridge and Thanks for the quick reply.
I just installed and tested AMD Overdrive earlier today, and Idle Thermal Margin is about 53 C, while Rendering it's at 7 C (!).

Any tips on how to properly control the fan speeds?

Hmm.. that's would be really worrying. I've been working with this build for more than a year and thankfully haven't had any shutdowns yet...
What do you think?

The FX 8350 by its very nature is a hot running CPU. To see if your case temperatures are adding to the problem, take off the side panel and point a room fan at the computer and do some rendering and look at the thermal margin. What is your ambient (room) temperature? The hotter it is the harder it will be to cool any piece of electronics.

I don't know how to specifically control your fan speeds in your rig. Perhaps in the BIOS you can set them to run at 100% all the time. I use MSI Afterburner to control my GPU fan speed (set up a profile) and Gigabyte's EasyTune 6 to set my CPU fan's profile (using a FX 6300).

I hear you. Both the case and the board are not ideal for keeping things cool. And I've installed a little beast with the FX-8350..

Any (other) way to tackle this, or at least reduce it as much as possible?

Maybe Extra Outlet Fans, Watercooling..?

I guess I'll just keep things the way they are for now.

Maybe in the future I'll try to add 1 more outlet on the top, as I'm only using one at the moment..

Thanks to both SR-71 Blackbird and mjslakeridge for your feedback!

Having said all that, I'm always open for any suggestions to improve, so please feel free to comment..
