Onboard Audio msi z170a-g45 gaming

I'm running an audio-technica m50x and mod mic 4.0 with the standard realtek audio drivers. I'm wondering if the onboard audio for this MOBO (msi z170a-g45 gaming) is considered good? Is it worth purchasing a sound card/amp/external DAC to improve sound?

not sure, but this is one of the few MSI motherboards i have seen out there that have an optical out portfor sound. it does isolate the sound chip on the motherboard to help stop interference like popping so that's a plus
