Hey everyone, I've got a real headscratcher here and was hoping for some help.

I'm working on a Dell inspiron n5050 laptop, and I just did a full reformat with Windows 7. I have done this several times on this particular laptop in the past with no issues whatsoever. This time, however, Windows did not automatically detect the wireless adapter and install the driver like usual. Fine, whatever... so I went and downloaded the drivers myself. But every time I extract them and go to install, it crashes at "preparing to install..." with no error message. The process just ends. I have installed chipset drivers, dell system software, etc. and tried again and again with no luck.

Has anyone encountered such an issue before? I'm at my wits end here. Thanks in advance

Just in case anyone else has this problem, the only way to fix it was to physically connect the laptop to the internet and let Windows update finish all the way. It found the necessary drivers in the process. Still don't know why the drivers crashed on install every time, used to work fine.
