So about 4-5 months I cracked open my case and added 16GB of RAM and swapped out my GTX 460 for my friends old GTX 760. The card had been running fine in his system no problems, but as soon as I put it in I had an immediate issue. The display driver will constantly crash in games and either totally crash the card and not work OR not fully recover. By not fully recover I mean the core clock and memory clock get chopped in half and won't go back to normal unless I restart or disable and re-enable the card in device manager which will sometimes cause a hard crash of the whole computer.
I believe some of the issue is GPU Boost 2.0, the card when kept at default settings will hit a certain temperature and then start to thermal throttle, dynamically increasing and decreasing the voltage and core clock. I think eventually somehow the card slips up and just crashes. I believe this to be possible because if I go into MSI afterburner and turn down the core clock, memory clock, and power limit all the way and increase the temperature limit to max. The card will then run longer without issues but eventually crash. For whatever reason my MSI afterburner will NOT let me lock the voltage or core clock, which I believe to be the main problem.
Basically:
- EVGA GTX 760 2GB Reference Card keeps crashing when playing games.
- Recurrence can be reduced if fan speed is locked higher, max temps set to highest allowed, and everything else is turned down to the minimum.
- It's not the new RAM, I've stress tested the living crap out of it and the ram usage can be basically none all the way to maxed out and I still have the problem.
- Drivers always up to date, currently running 376.09.
- Windows 7 64-bit always up to date.
I recently used DDU in safe mode and reinstalled the latest drivers, seemed like it was going good but then NOPE CRASH.
PLEASE HELP I'm so sick and tired of restarting and monkeying with this thing. Also what is the most recent super stable driver for the GTX 760.
