Hello Guys,
I have a PC with DG41RQ Intel MoBo with Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 Ghz processor and 3 GB DDR2 ram.

I'm using a 500 Gb HDD with windows 7 installed in it.

Few days ago I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD to use as a slave drive.

I installed that nicely and was using it. Lots of important data in it.

But suddenly the pc was not booting any more.

I unplugged the 1TB hdd and installed win7 again on the 500GB hdd.

It's working nice again.

But whenever I plug the 1TB hdd the pc boots but get hanged after showing the desktop or the my computer.

Pls help me what to do.

Good job with the troubleshooting then, @riyaar! :)

If the issue is coming from your motherboard for sure, then you should try swapping between the different SATA ports on it. Check if plugging the drive in a different one with another SATA cable would help the system perform better. You should also check the mobo manufacturer's official website for any recent updates on the chipset and SATA controller drivers. While on it, I'd also advise to see if you have the latest BIOS version installed. However, make sure you follow the instructions on the mobo's manual on how to update it. Hopefully, this will resolve the problem.

You mentioned that the system works without the secondary drive, but it might also be a good idea to try swapping...
Welcome to the TH Community, @riyaar!

I hope there's nothing wrong with the new HDD as it would put your data in jeopardy! Please, try plugging that slave drive to another PC or externally via a docking station/external enclosure with an AC adapter (needed for 3.5" desktop HDDs) and then backup your data somewhere else. Having at least one more duplicate of the drive on a different storage location (on-site as well as off-site) is how you will avoid any potential data loss!
The issue could be coming from a faulty connection to the drive, so you should also try using a different SATA port on the mobo as well as a different SATA cable. Check how the system will boot afterwards with both drives intact. Once you have your files safe and sound copied elsewhere, you should also consider running the HDD brand-specific diagnostic tool or a third-party alternative to determine its health and SMART status.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Dear,

You're absolutely right that their are no problem in the HDD. I have tried that on other pc. But problem is whenever I connect it to my PC, PC normally boots and show that the HDD is connected. But after a few minutes the PC gets HANG. Without the 1TB hdd, my nearly 6 years old PC still works smoothly.

I guess the problem is in the MotherBoard. It is a Intel DG41RQ series 2nd gen mobo. No my question is, is there any solution for this, or should I change the MoBo and get a new one of that series???

Thank You

You mentioned that the system works without the secondary drive, but it might also be a good idea to try swapping the places of the 500 GB primary drive and the 1 TB new HDD and check how the system will behave afterwards.

Let me know how it goes.
