Before I install Samsung SSD

I have just purchased a Samsung SSD. I looked at the install docs that came with the drive which consists of pictures and no text. I know what I have to do to install the software and connect the drive to my PC with the USB/SATA cable.

I know that I have to initialize the drive so that it will be recognized, but my question is should I allow Win10 disk mgt to create a simple volume on the drive or just stop at initializing? I see that some have had trouble with Samsung's software and I want to contribute to that as little as possible. Thanks.

Hey there, NettieDot.

If you plan on cloning your currently used drive and OS, then you should be fine with just initializing the SSD (so that the software can recognize it). The destination drive (the SSD in this case) will get the same formatting (File System) and data you have on the source drive (your current SSD/HDD).

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes, I do intend to clone. Thanks for your quick response.

Actually it's unnecessary to initialize your new Samsung SSD since you will be using the Samsung Data Migration program to clone the contents of your present drive to the Samsung SSD. All that's necessary is that the TOTAL data contents on the drive you'll be cloning is less than the disk-space capacity of your new Samsung SSD.
