Im building my first pc with the asus maximus viii hero with my i7-6700k.

My question is, for my cooler (hyper 212 evo) should i do a pea size for the thermal paste or spread the thermal paste on the cooler like it says in cooler master's instructions.

Also is it ok for me to install it (with thermal paste) and than take it off to check if the thermal paste was spread out correctly?

All help/info is appreciated thanks!

Solution
Either way works.
Pea size or spread it thinly.

No, do NOT take it off to verify. It takes heat and a day or two to spread out fully.
If you take it off, you'd just have to clean and redo it. Then you take it off again to verify, and.......

Put it on, once, properly.
Then leave it alone.

Solution
Either method works about equally well.

If you remove the cooler to see how well you did, you will need to clean the old paste off and apply new.

The key is to use as little paste as possible. More like a rice grain size.
It only needs to fill microscopic air pits in the mating surfaces.
It will spread out under heat and pressure.
Too much paste is bad, it will act as an insulator.
