Hey all,

Looking to make a graphics card upgrade an need some help. Can I run a GTX 1060 on a PCIe 2.0 without any power adapter with an i5 650 and 400W power supply?

And if not, a GTX 1050ti?

Thanks :)

Solution
all of the 1060 models need an extra power adapter. this is both the 3 and 6 gb ones. a pcie 2.0 or 3.0 slot will not power a 1060 by itself. the card needs extra power beyond what the slot itself can provide.

so no luck there for you. the 1050ti cards, do not need any extra power for most of the models. there are a few that use a 6-pin but most do not.

sounds like your ""400w" psu is not really a 400w psu if it does not have any pcie power leads. it should have a 6-pin at least if it is anything but a junk power supply. see this thread for a list of the 1050 ti cards and specs. updating it as we speak so should be complete in an hour or so...

Ya PCI-E 3.0 is backward compatible with 2.0.

Without any power adapter? Depends on the model I guess. But of course you would have to connect the power to the GPU.

400 watts should be enough, but it depends on the quality of the PSU.

Ya, a GTX 1050ti follows the same logic.

Thanks for your response.

I phrased my question wrong. Is a PCIe x16 2.0 connector capable of handling the 1060 without any additional help from power connectors etc?
