Ok so i have an AMD 8370 cpu.. i play a game "Ark survival evolved" and i had the cpu overclocked to 4.3 ghz from the base 4.0 and it stayed relatively cool.. however someone told me i would gain performance if i unparked my cores.. so i checked, sure enough 4 cores were parked so i unparked them but the heat was to much so i backed the oc down to a stable 4.1ghz. My question.. which is the better option for performance in gaming? The 4 cores that are overclocked? Or the less oc 8 cores? And yes im waiting for zen lol

This all depends on how many case fans you have. If you do not have many, I recommend installing a couple more to increase airflow, thus cooling the CPU. If you have enough fans, I recommend sticking with the OC as parking and unparking your cores often may cause bugs with the RAM (though not related). Also, more cores will not affect the current 4 cores you have all too much.

First he never mentionned Zen, so why do you?
Second, you realise the stupidity you just wrote? AMD always flopped??

My case has 7 120mm fans including a 180mm side fan.. also and aftermarket heat sinc with a 120mm fan.. i try to keep cpu below 55-57.. so it looks as if this processor does better overclocked then with more cores..

So did Intel at one time with there faulty floating point unit embedded into Pentium cpus.
Nvidia also fail or do we forget the recent 3.5Gb memory limit of 6Gb equipped graphics cards they put on the market recently guys ?

And what if the 40% IPC , per core increase turns out to be true.?
Is it a fail then for a cpu at a cheaper retail price than being overcharged by Intel because there is no competition.
Rather than speculation, or negativity. that`s a good thing for the average Joe looking into buying the new cpu releases from Amd and Intel that will be coming in the first quarter of 2017 isn`t it ?

Well just have to wait and see what independent bench marks of the Zen cpu`s really are, above what Amd are quoting through in house testing of the Zen cpu.

Learn to read his post then write your stupid comments.
AMD has promised the world with each new release and has never got close to Intel's performance since the old P2 days just as I stated.
Also the FX processors need to be overclocked to the 4.8 area to get the stink out of them just as I stated and for gaming still gets matched by a simple i3
Core parking helps them since they have shared 2 cores with the same resources.

YOU brought Zen and irrelevant, opinionated BS into this thread, and we'd appreciate if you'd see yourself out. The OP already marked it as answered.

Yes he clearly stated he was waiting on Zen but after seeing your PC i can understand your anger since you have the same sub par processor. I would be mad also if i wasted my money on one of those.
For the selected best answer bad advice was marked as best answer the cores should be parked for a higher overclock the bad thing about these forums you have 12 year old kids with no clue giving answers with no knowledge.

After reading back up, I see that you're right about him mentioning Zen, so it seems I owe you an apology about that. I'll take my own advice about reading in the future XD

As for my build, I specifically chose the FX-6300 two years ago because I fully intended to overclock it out of the box, and I couldn't afford an i5. I've never regretted that choice, as it served me well. I'm actually curious as to when you viewed my specs, since I updated my profile today with my new system. The fx-6300 build will continue to be used as a server since it's still rock-solid.

apologies, the OP brought Zen indeed.

But still what you wrote is total BS.
AMD was many times much better than Intel, took more risks that paid off. If you have no memory of those times, you should start right now reading the history of AMD CPUs. Remember the Athlons? Maybe not... Too young you were then, or too blind. Or too old and now memory fails you :O
