Hi! I'm a novice about computers and need some help!

I own a dell xps 8100 i5-760 that i purchased in 2009 and am looking to upgrade my graphics card. The current graphics card is a geforce gts 240

Now I have a few questions.
1. Should I upgrade my psu?
2. Would it be better to just start a whole new rig?
3. Will I create a bottleneck by just upgrading my graphics card and nothing else?

I was looking at getting a EVGA Geforce GTX 1050TI or a EVGA Geforce GTX 750ti.

Would the above graphics card work well with my current pc?

I would rather use the 1050ti if possible.

Woah that was fast! Thanks for the info! Yeah, I searched the forum and found some old threads saying the 750ti would work. But I am assuming the 1050ti wasn't out around then?

Well looks like I will be buying a 1050ti soon :)

I ended up getting the msi 1050ti gaming and it works amazingly. Its a big improvement and I can run wow on ultra graphics with about 40-50fps. If i drop everything down to high it gets around 100-110fps.

The old graphics card could barely handle the lowest settings. Plus it was super loud and hitting 100 Celsius when playing games. Admittedly I do live in Australia so it gets hot. But I never hear the new graphics card and it stay around 35-40 C° when gaming

I can't comment on the 970. It does look like the better graphics card. I'm not sure if the 970 will cause any bottlenecking though...

I simply went with the 1050ti because I had a 350w psu and the 1050ti was the cheapest solution.

The only problem I encounter was the msi 1050 ti gaming was a bit long/wide. I knew this would be the case and moved the hard drive up. I didn't have to modify the case at all as it had holes to allow for it to be moved up. Most other 1050ti brands will fit. Especially if you get a singe fan.

In conclusion, the 1050ti is a massive improvement over the original graphics card. There are also no bottlenecks from what I can tell.

Hope this helped :)
