Hello, I'm new to Computer building and would like some assistance in my current dilemma.

Recently I purchased a Gigabyte GTX 960 to place in my semi-new PC. However I have a problem: when plugging in the PCI-E cables to my female ends, the PC ends up rejecting the idea of it being plugged in by giving me the message of requiring to plug in the cables to power up the GPU on boot-up.

The PCI-E cables/pins are as follows, to the best of my knowledge:
- 6 pins connect directly to the GPU itself.
- The 6 pin becomes 2 molex connectors (white rectangular extensions that end up having 3 male pins on each). So it ends up looking like a "Y" shape.
- The receiving female connectors that would supposedly accept the 3-pinned male molexes apparently have 4 female pin holes on each.

My current setup is the following:
- AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor
- Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
- Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card
- apevia atx‑vn500w 500w atx12v power supply

I don't believe the RAM is important in this scenario, so I didn't bother to look it up.

Evidently, my Computer setup has all of the connectors lead back to the Power Supply, yet regardless of which of the 4 I connect my Molexes to, it matters not. The same boot-up message proclaims that I need to connect it to my power supply.

I'm lead to believe 2 things:
- I need to get a more compatible power supply.
OR
- I need a different type of adapter or something to that extent.

Please assist me and my lack of knowledge in this field. I truly appreciate the help, thanks!

Solution
