How Significant of a Difference Will I Get Between a Core i5 2.7GHz and a Core i7 3.4GHz?

I'm mainly looking to game, and the difference between the two is around 150$. Is it really going to give me a significant fps boost if I get the i7? Will the i5 be able to run most triple A titles?

I assume you're comparing an i5 6400 and an i7 6700. The 6400 won't generally hold you back in all but the most CPU demanding titles. The 1060 would probably max out first otherwise. If it's a prebuilt system then go ahead with the 6400 and you shouldn't have any regrets. If you're putting it together yourself, check out the i5 6500, it's typically about $20 more than the 6400, but has a base clock of 3.2 GHz rather than 2.7 GHz.
which i5 and i7, they are not desktop speeds?

Generally speaking IF you are CPU constrained then you'll gain a benefit and allow more of the GPU to be used. If you are GPU constrained then it might improve the minimum frame rate a bit.

So we need to know the whole system and resolution.

If I were you I'd rather go for the 3.5 ghz i5. Much better for gaming. Very very little improvement when going to an i7 in terms of gaming. I have an i5 4690k at 3.9ghz (turbo) and a R9 290 overclocked and can run any game at the moment at 1080p ultra above 60 fps (except crisis lol). It's better to spend a bit more money to go to the 3.5ghz i5 pr 3.4ghz.

Well the GPU is a gtx 1060, and the resolution is most likely gonna be 1080p, doubt I'd do any 4k gaming.
