Hello everyone,

I have recently bought a yeti for a mic and i want to get new headphones because my krakens are falling apart.

I do not listen to music that much and would only get an amp if i needed to.

Anything you guys/girls recommend for gaming?

I saw Sennheiser HD 598 for $179 CAD

I just got the Sennheiser HD 598 and adore them. I went from a beloved logitech headphone/mic to these guys when an audiophile friend had enough of my terrible taste in headphones and will never look back. I initially avoided over the ear headphones like these because every time I tried a set they'd sit uncomfortably on my ear cartilage. I don't know if I have big ears or just pickier than most people I know. Either way the Sennheisers don't sit uncomfortably at all, they site perfectly around my ears. The sound quality is going to be heads and shoulders above a gaming headset so I think you'll be happy with them. You really need to try them first. Many people really rate Sennheiser for their sound quality/price but every set I have tried I have not been entirely happy with the sound, can't put my finger on why just never seemed as good as equivalent priced Bose or Sony. I've got a 4 year old Bose set I paid £120 for and they do brilliantly for me. Audio is a very personal choice, no one set suits everyone.

They seem to wear well, the friend that got me my set has one as well thats more than a couple of years old and the only wear I saw was cracking on leather/pleather of the padded headband.

Obviously the best bet is to test in person but if you're buying blind online I don't think you'll be disappointed in the Sennheiser.

How are they for positioning in games, such as FPS?

the hd598 is a good "general use can". it is not going to excel in any one area but does good at many things. it combines a decent soundstage with fairly neutral signature with decent comfort.

want huge soundstage for fps? look towards the ad500x/700x. they are bass light and less enjoyable though.
want something more fun? v-shaped cans like the dt770 or similar have that but are not neutral sounding and are biased.
want something detailed in treble? the dt990 or akg cans have that but can be fatiguing. the hd598 is more easy listening for long hours.
