Cant add Micrsoft Account in Windows 10

I attempted to add my Microsoft account to Windows 10 to tie my WIndows 10 activation key to the account but when I select Add Account, nothing happens. I have tried creating different accounts but whether the account is admin or not the option is greyed out. I am kind of stuck in a Catch-22 situation and any help would be appreciated.

Try creating new pc user using your microsoft account.

I cannot in settings so I did in the command prompt but the option is greyed out, I cannot select it. It doesnt matter is the account is admin or not.

So I think I was able to sign in by changing an account to standard, then suing my microsoft account to sign in with and Windows 10 said it was linked to my account but how will I be able to reinstall windows 10 if I need to make a fresh copy?

Create windows install media, boot from it and install
(as everybody else on the planet).

Edit: BTW windows licence can be linked only to administrative user account. It will not be linked to standard user account. Make sure, you check that.
