Massive lag in all games!! New PC

So hey guys, I just bought my self a new Hp 15 notebook. It was working great and was even working on my Tv with no lag, until, suddenly every single game has a massive lag throughout pls help. Tho my pc seems fine just my games are lagging
My pc specs are
Intel i5-5200U Cpu 2.20Ghz
8gb ram
Nvidia 940m 2Gb graphics
And I have around 500gb free

and when your shutdown (not sleep mode) and start up and go to the same game does it lag still ?
are you on Wifi while playing the games (this can and often causes lag) have you tried connecting it to a network cable (if possible) while playing your game ?

What's the resolution of your screen? If it is 1080p you may have to cut the resolution to 1366x768 when playing games or lower the graphic settings a lot. As you can see from Notebookcheck, the Geforce 940m really struggles to play games at 1080p resolution, especially anything recently released.

I've restarted my computer and checked for malware(no malware), reduced my resolution. None of it seems to work. My game was functioning at high res and at optimum speeds.

Nero_1 :

I would run and use SPECCY and look at temperature reported on CPU and gpu while running the game (run the game when you get slow down, ctl-alt-tab and look at speccy running in the back ground temps. anything over 90'c will be an issue.
