I have a HP ProBook 6550b notebook PC and I was wondering but can I upgrade my CPU to Intel Core i7-720QM? I have a Intel i5-460m now but I know the Intel Core i7-720QM will fit but will it work fine? I don't have a discrete video card just a Intel HD but just wondering if the Core i7-720QM CPU will work fine? I can get them on Ebay use at a good deal. I pretty sure the Intel Core i7-720QM has Intel HD graphics built in it right? If not I will have to use like Intel Core i7-620M.

In other words you take your chances. Some laptops CPU's can be upgraded, especially if you see the same model have more powerful processors installed then you can usually swap those processors. Usually it isn't worth it because old laptop parts are overpriced. I agree with Chugalug on this basis to just save up for a refurbished or used laptop, but if you have good deal on the CPU then there's not much I can do to stop you.

I would not go with the 720QM though because on Intel's site it does not state it has a iGPU, whereas the 620M does.

Well actually I can see I can remove my CPU on my notebook. This model was replaceable it is the business type notebook. Right now I have a Intel i5-460m but when I open it up and see the CPU I can see that it can be removed but just haven't done it since I don't have a new CPU.

I actually found out that I can only use the Intel Core i7-620M since this one has IGP.

Are you guys sure I can't remove my CPU? It does look like it's removable.
