Two routers into one Modem?

I am trying to increase the coverage in my house. The cable modem (Motorola Surfboard SBG6580) is set to bridge at the moment. It is then wired directly through wall Ethernet into a Cisco EA6500 router which is upstairs. I would like to cover the downstairs by plugging in a new Linksys AC1600 (EA6400) into the modem not the router as I can't reach that via any wires now.

As of now I have it plugged into the modem but am getting no internet connection.
Is it possible to run two routers directly off one modem? If so, how?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

You can only use one router with the Motorola set to Bridge mode. You can put your "main" router near the modem and put your second router, connected to the first one by the in-wall wire. Set the EA6400 as an access point rather than a router.
