So finally im moving on from my old scrubby razer kraken pro and i was looking for something new to use while gaming. The options that i managed to narrow down to where the m40x, akg k240, k271 and the shure srh440 but the question is, are there better options or should i go for one of these since as long as the headphones are either closed or half open and are enjoyable to use im all for it

Solution
from what i've read on them users were stating that they did not need much of an amp for the two akg cans you mentioned but did say that they sounded much better with one. i'm thinking a decent entry level amplifier might be a good pairing if you can get the akg cans for cheap enough.

there might be a few new old stock m50's around but you are correct in that they are discontinued and no longer made. i used to see them on ebay for around $100-110 (when m50x was $150-165) which made them a good deal. i did see a few that looked like new old stock on some of the amazon europe portals as well. the m50 really isnt a gaming headphone either so its not a big deal. the only reason i said m50 over m30/m40 is that the earcups are a bit deeper...
m30/40/50 lineup has small soundstages so is not ideal for gaming. i very much prefer my m50 over the others due to the deeper earcups but all of them are not meant for big ears or big heads.

what budget? i heard sennheiser recently made a closed version of its hd598 you might be interested in. the open version would likely have a bit more soundstaging but the 518/558/598 lineup is known to be a good jack of all trades (but are open and it seems you dont want open)

Around 120 euros and i cant go any higher since i will still need to buy a mic and the reason i dont want open backed ones is due to sound leakage

see if you can try out the hd598c in person. it should be around 99eur from at least a few amazon europe sites. less soundstage than the 598 but with a little stronger treble and bass response. overall it should work for you i'm thinking.

Sadly but the hd598c are out of the question since amazon doesnt ship to my country and the lowest price for them here is around 200 euros

the akg cans in your first post both need an amp to sound good. while possible to drive them with onboard, they sound a bit unexciting based on some other user reviews. given how they eat up your budget for headphones, i'd say this makes them not as good of a solution.

also, semi open will leak sound just like open cans. if you do not want others to hear your audio or to hear other noises around you then you really want closed. if semi open is acceptable then full open cans are comparable as well.

i'm not familiar with that shure model so can not comment much on it.

the m40 (or if you can score an older model m50 or m50s for cheaper.. its almost the same thing as the m50x minus removable cable) would work if you dont care much about soundstaging. while i have personally used my (m50) for gaming and do not care about soundstaging this is up to you. overall sound quality is good and they are certainly exciting as well as easy to drive. as long as fit (big ears or big head) and soundstage (not very 3d sounding) are not an issue perhaps you might like them.

you might be able to get a dt770 32 ohm or 80 ohm for your budget.. maybe. the 32 should drive fine even on onboard while the 80 i would suggest at least a half decent soundcard.

Sadly the dt770 is a no go either, the lowest ive found was 150 euros, that is the 80 ohm version while the 30 one is around 160

If semi opened ones are nearly identical to open ones then il be up them since sound leakage is a minor factor.

My original idea was to either go for the m40x or the akg ones since if im not mistaken the older m50 are most likely not sold anymore and the akg ones were around 85 euros + i would be able to get myself an aftermarket amp and the microphone would be a whole other story

since it seems open would be okay... if you can get a hd518 or hd558 for cheap enough they are decent as well. europe prices for sennheiser is normally expensive though (the hd518/558 are below $100usd headphones while the hd598 is normally $150).

Say that i would need an amp for my headphones then, what would be the best option?
