I re-seated my ram just yesterday, and now I have a boot problem where it just keeps restarting itself after 3-5 seconds of boot, AND it wont connect to display or keyboard/mouse. They worked when i tested them on other devices.
I dont understand how reseating the same ram can do this.
I tried clearing cmos and I was able to get it to stay alive for 5 minutes or so, but still no connection to another monitor or keyboard/mouse.
It then shut itself off and now my mouse wont connect to any computer, so my guess is that its now fried...
I tried removing the graphics card and using the on board display, which was able to get me connected to another display and got another keyboard working. I then reset the motherboard to default, but im now too afraid to even connect anything to it, in case of it frying something else more valuable.

How did this happen and what can i do?

Solution

Thanks for your suggestions but that wasnt it.
I found out I wasnt resetting the cmos properly... I had only taken my battery out for 5 minutes. after leaving it out for 2 hours, I got the cmos reset message when turning on and everything was sweet from there!
Thanks for you help.

If anyone has this problem,

unplug the pc...

Ill make sure now, but I dont think that will be the issue since the ram is pretty distanced from any other connectors.

Ram is usually fairly close to the CPU and its cooler. Make sure you didn't knock anything loose there.

If anyone has this problem,

unplug the pc completely
take out the cmos battery (may have to leave it out for a while, some cases up to 24 hours)
drain the capacitors by holding the power button while unplugged for a minute
connect the computer to power
Use the onbaord display to get an output to a monitor/television (take out the GPU and connect to the motherboards display output)
boot and re-set date and time for motherboard.
then you can re-install your GPU and use it like normal!
