I have never overclocked anything before and would like some feedback . I have :
GPU: GTX 1070 STRIX ( not oc version )
CPU: Intel Core I7 6700k @ 4.0 GHz
RAM: HyperX Fury 8 GB DDR4 @ 2400 MHz , CL15, 1.2V
PSU: FSP HYDRO G 750, 750W, 80+ Gold ( Modular)
Motherboard : MSI B150 PC MATE
HDD: 2TB Seagate @ 7200 RPM
SSD: ADATA 64GB
Case: Deepcool Dukase V2
CPU Cooler: Stock Intel Cooler ( I know , I'm replacing it with a Noctua NH-C14S )

Here are the results :

Before OC : http://imgur.com/a/Rk4cy
After OC : http://imgur.com/a/RCpOY

Its stable without any crashes or artifacting . Haven't had any time to really test games , but it seems i get close to 70-90 fps on the highest settings on : The Witcher 3 , GTA V , Crysis 3 , AC: Syndicate and BF1 ( on 1080p) . At 1440p I get close to the 60-70fps mark ( Which is still low compared to the fps other people are getting both on 1080 and 1440p , would like some help with that ) .

I cant say a whole lot about any boards from asus since the only one ive had experience with was from 10 years ago.
i just mentioned the pro 4 cuz i see it around a lot and be a safe choice to go with the most popular as your first overclock.
I myself might be getting one of those too if i find out my new mobo is no good.
such a headache tbh. im beginning to think i should just get the 6600k now and stop wasting time lol overclocking is fun but when u get to a point where u dont know wtf is going on.. very frustrating..
so yeah thats another point too.. cuz if u have questions.. there are many ppl who have that board and most likely get response and different views

Im not an overclocking expert, but I have OCed a few things (including GPUs)
looking at the clockspeed, you have a nice overclock but try lowering the voltage, the card isnt running very hot but I can tell that it is outputting a lot of heat. although the card isnt very hot at 60 degrees C, the fan speed is on 79%. which is very high
after you take the voltage downb, for stability, I would recommend keeping valley running for a few hours (maybe for the night or something) just to make sure youre overclock is OK
if you have BF4 (I dont know about BF1) I would recommend playing that game because its very picky on its overclocks (also black ops 3, dont know about infinite warfare)

when people benchmark GPUs, they dont play the intire game, just a small portion and then compare it to other cards (same portion of the game tested on other cards aswell). also, keep in mind you have other apps in the backround while playing games, which is not a good idea for benchmarking and can give you somewhat of a lower FPS.
these two things can make youre rig look like its under-perfoming (or over-performing) when compering to benchmarks online

By how much should I lower the voltage ? I forgot to turn down the fan speed in the screen shot , all the benchmarks were with the auto setting . Tried BF3 runs at from 80 to 110 fps inside buildings and outside always above 100 ( the server I was on was 120Hz so it only went to 120pfs ) . I will run valley tonight while I sleep and see how it goes .

just lower the voltage at 5mv at a time, let valley run for 15-20 minutes and if it doesnt crash, repeat
when you find the lowest voltage where it doesnt crash after 20 minutes of valley, let it run for the night
if it crashed during the night add 5mv and let it run for the night again
if you dont want to stress test again and again just add 10mv and that should do it (stress test for an hour just to make sure)

I lowered it down to about 90% and my benchmarks started going down . FireStrike went to 15 550 , why is that ?

good question, look at the clock speed while benchmarking, maybe it just doesnt have enough voltage so it just clocks back (try maybe taking the memory overclock back, OCing the memory isnt very usful and it might help)
also, check the temps, fan speed, voltage, usage and power usage
if something is at 100%/99% and its not GPU usage, so bump that up

I know, but I have a stock cooler and don't want it to overheat or something . I'm getting a new cooler soon. Will the advertised 4.2 GHz
run well on a stock cooler ?

i thought the 6700k's dont come with a stock cooler. hm.
but if thats what u got with the cpu then yeah it'll work. 4.2 is not very intense. things are noticeable after 4.5.
just keep in mind when u are overclocking and especially increasing voltage, watch ur temps

Yeah just noticed that even if I wanted to OC it , I can't . My motherboard doesn't even allow me to go over 4.2 , so i guess ill be replacing it ( A huge oversight on my part ) . I'm thinking about the Asus Z170-A motherboard. Also, yeah they don't come with a stock cooler, but i didn't have room in the budget at the time for an after market one.

yea u want to look into z170 chipsets to do oc.
cant go wrong with z170-a very popular. maybe look at asrock z170 pro 4 very popular oc mb.

What about the Asus z170 Pro Gaming ? It seems to be an even better option than the z170-a ( considering my primary need is gaming ) . Futuremark (as of this month ) ranks it as the #1 Best MB . Both are exactly the same price here . Z170-A looks better ( aesthetically ) in my opinion . Not really going for an aggressive looking build with the red , but more of a chill look , but the more usb ports and better audio are big selling points for me .
