Some games like bf1 may show improvements when overclocked. 4.6 or 4.7ghz is still a good 500-600mhz faster clock speed. Some games respond to higher clocks others not as much. The 6700k is hyper threaded yes, which means 4 cores each processing 2 threads. It's not 8 cores, that's just how windows reads it. It's a method of keeping all 4 cores busy rather than waiting on data threads.

Like I said, your system's already capable. Not really sure why someone would go to the trouble for a z board and k series cpu then not overclock. You won't know if it's worth it or not on your system and the programs/games you run until you try. Some people are sensitive to fps differences and others aren't.
You might be able to, it depends on a number of things. How well your cpu overclocks, can it attain higher multipliers on less voltage (voltage creates more heat but may need to be increased for stability as clocks are increased), ambient room temps, case airflow etc. Try and see is all you can do. If you have a z series board I don't see any reason not to, you already have the k series cpu.

Keep an eye on temps and the overclocking process is pretty much the same method. Slight adjustments to the multiplier, increasing voltage a little at a time as necessary for stability, checking with programs like realbench for stability and prime95 v26.6 (small fft's) to see if thermals are in check, rinse and repeat.

The 6700k is pretty top of the line, overclocking it probably won't result in meaningful improvement in games simply because it's very unlikely a CPU as powerful as the 6700k will be a bottleneck. Once the CPU starts getting older you may be able to squeeze some noticeable gains out of it by overclocking. Although, as said above, if you meet all the requirements of overclocking (Z170 board, unlocked CPU), you may as well give it a shot.

the 6700k is 4 core with hyper threading right so 8 hyper threading cores?

you should give it ago, overclocking your CPU is not very hard. i just got my self a 6700k and a Hyper 212 EVO and i have it @ 4.5Ghz and its running very well :) just looking for a couple of tweaks to the OC right now
