Hi,

So I recently got a new 1440p monitor and it is having fps issues when playing games with the new resolution. I get frequent black screens on almost all my games when the fullscreen res is set to 1440p 144hz. I current have a EVGA 780ti and am looking for an upgrade.

I heard that the 1080 will already be a very big upgrade over the 780ti, and at its price point now at around $650 for EVGA 1080 FTW or ACX3.0, should I wait til next month when the 1080ti comes out? I don't think I will be able to afford anything over $700 and the 1080ti will most likely be way beyond that.

I am not sure of the pricing trends, but will the 1080 price drop when the 1080ti comes out, or should I wait for totally different card?

Thanks!

I'd buy it now. Retailers may be anticipating the shuffle of cards due to the pending release. Will they be proactive and try to clear some stock? I'd keep it simple and buy https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-1080-AERO-3DisplayPort/dp/B01GXOX35A/ref=sr_1_96?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480809450 or https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-Turbo-Graphic-TURBO-GTX1080-8G/dp/B01HDUVJ2M/ref=sr_1_95?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480809450

I noticed you said FTW or ACX3.0

Why the or? FTW is a descriptor reserved for some of EVGA's most overclocked chips. THe SSC may be overclocked more.

ACX 3.0 is a fan style.

With MSI Afterburner the user can overclock. But then there is the binning process. And the beat goes on......

With this beast of a co-pilot who will be at the helm of your ship?

I actually had no reasoning behind the two evga. I'm not all that familiar with overclocking GPUs and just saw these two from EVGA. I really just want a simple card to plug and play and not have to worry about FPS issues. Would you say that the MSI and asus u recommended would be a better option for me then?

EDIT: There is also so many different types of the 1080 that I don't really know which one to choose... some have more fans, cooling systems, etc.
