I just bought a GTX 1070 and I overclocked my CPU to 4.2ghz but I feel as though I'm not getting as much FPS as I can. I usually get from 140-200fps on CSGO which was even a decrease from when I had a GTX 760. Sometimes when I play play Overwatch my PC would just restart itself out of nowhere. I only have 1 slot of 8gb RAM installed and I have a feeling that this is one of the causes.
This is the 1 slot of RAM I have: https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Signature-PC3-12800-1600MHz-PSD38G16002/dp/B007HILOWG/ref=pd_lpo_147_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P6GCR5SA6ZVWFAZCYRSK

Can this bottleneck my system?

BUILD:

GTX 1070
MSI Z97 Gaming 5
8GB RAM

Solution

Can you post your psu please this sounds like a power issue.

*sigh* I purchased a Z97 board with my 4690K. I looked to the tech specs of my motherboard. Let's see. What's my motherboard called? MSI Z97 PC Mate. Channels supported? Dual channel. I can install these speeds. It has to be DDR3. So. I guess I will choose a dual channel kit (2x4GB) 1866MHz CL 10.

What did you do when you chose your MSI 97 board?

I agree with your assessment. The single channel might be the cause. Not 100% certain but it is one possibility. That cuts bandwidth in half nice and cleanly.

The other suggestion in another possible cause that is just as likely. Even if the PSU is in fact the cause you should make your build correct. What do I suggest? 1 x 8GB 1866MHz CL 9 DDR 3 RAM. I may be wrong Total of two.Slots 2 x 4 should be populated when only 2 modules are installed. You do need to install identical RAM. It needs to exactly match your current stick.

The DDR in DDR RAM stands for "Double Data Rate". It accomplishes that "double" by simultaneously accessing two "channels" between the CPU and the RAM. Each channel is essentially a RAM socket.

So having only one socket populated you are running at half the RAM speed possible with DDR. 2X4Gb will be better than 1X8Gg and 2X8Gb would be even better, assuming you are running a 64-bit OS. If you are running a 32-bit OS nothing over 4Gb can be accessed so 8Gb is a waste of money.

I suggest not trying to add a RAM stick to your build but buying a set of RAM in a "kit". Adding another stick of RAM with the existing one may or may not work. They are called kits because the sticks of RAM have been tested together and are guaranteed to work together.

Also remember to set your CPU clock speed back to standard speed before installing the new RAM. Then do your overclocking again.

You did completely uninstall the drivers of your previous card right? Also ddr3 was already way fast enough and running them in dual channel makes not even 1% difference in games. Maybe you could be having some temps issues with the new card as it is more powerful and gives of a bit more heat than the 760.

When I got the new card. I uninstalled my previous driver with Uninstall Programs on windows. I also manually downloaded the new GPU driver from the NVIDIA website. Can you explain how to COMPLETELY uninstall the previous drivers? I'm not sure if I completely did it.

Run this and do uninstall:

Very handy and saves a lot of time.
