Question about my little brothers system.

My little brother's computer is running windows 10 with an AMD Phenom ii x4 940, 8gb of ram and a VisionTek 3450. I'm wondering if a 750ti or a 1050ti would be a good upgrade for the system. Basically with the current graphics card he can't really play anything. Not worried about reaching 60fps with any fancy settings or anything, just want him to be able to play games with at least 30fps. Also the computer is running windows 10 and everything else off of a 500gb seagate hard drive and windows in general seems to run very slowly. Any tips for this?
Thanks for any help!

I'd suggest the 750ti 2gb card at a minimum, a 1050ti at maximum. His CPU is old, yes, but still capable of giving more than playable framerates on most games. That's because most games still only require a basic level of quad core performance while primarily depending on the videocard. I would not suggest anything more expensive than a 1050ti because the games for those cards ARE the ones you'd want a better CPU to run well. I would not suggest a 650ti, I've used one, because while it's much better than what he has now, it's still too slow.

A 1050 would probably be the sweet spot for performance per dollar for him. A 750ti costs less but you lose a lot of performance for the savings, this is assuming you buy new.
Everything in there is just terribly old, a 750 ti will improve gaming performance and will probably get you the fps you're looking for but there's only so much you can do with that weak of a processor. As for the slowness in windows, are you getting close to filling up the hard drive? It'll get a lot slower as you approach max capacity. Also, if you haven't done a fresh install of windows in a long time your registry could be getting out of control. 120 and 240GB SSDs are really cheap nowadays, would be an excellent investment if you want to breathe new life into an old system.

Well that processor is not great, I guarantee a 750 Ti and 1050 would bottleneck with that. That being said the 1050 is a great budget card for only $100 its hard to beat the performance for that price. If the computer is running slow my bet is the processor, but it's a really old system from the look of it. You could build a completely new system for about $300 assuming you already have a case, PSU, and the OS isnt an OEM.

What about the 650ti? He needs a gpu even if their is a slight bottleneck. He doesn't have the money to upgrade or buy anything new besides the gpu.

Most games.. except MMO's and open world games and games with a lot of pre-render textures. So really maybe 75% of games from 2008 up. From this year more like 25% if that.

In all honestly if all you're looking for is "playable frame rates" and "nothing fancy" and still want to play games from this decade, get an Xbox. $300 and will perform way better than upgrading the graphics card will do.
