how to monitor current bandwidth usage?

I don't mean bandwith usage over time, or worry about a max limit of GB a month. I mean how do i see how many mb/s is currently being sent to and from the router by all computers currently on the network.

I have a asus n-900 router.

Well the box that potentially has that information is the n-900 isn't it, so if its firmware doesn't give you that functionality... you need another box in its place or a new firmware. I dunno if the n-900 is in the family of hardware that allows user-downloable custom firmware, Google "dd-wrt" to get started for such community.

I will check that, if it doesn't work. Do you know any software or function in windows that monitors sent and recieved data in realtime?

I don't fancy the "calculators", and I'd like to see if I need my current speeds from the ISP, or more/less.

EDIT: to install on a single PC to monitor only that.

Potentially a hardware firewall, PFSENSE sounds popular, check it out.

Are you ready for the intricacies of networking? this Pfsense stuff am assuming runs on some version of Linux, no nice GUI, all command line, codes, real computing.

Haven't really tried Linux, want to install Kali on a old laptop I have tho.. Maybe now would be the time. I can't understand how this isn't easier. Imagined there would be a nice little program or plugin. Is it weird wanting to see how much traffic you use?

Should anyone wonder about this.

I installed HWmonitor and it has a section for my wireless card wich shows -in real time- download and upload speeds in Mbps. As well as a min and max value for the current session.
