Hi all, I apologize if this the wrong channel for seeking this sort of advice. I guess I've never had reason to ask anyone online these sorts of questions because I generally had someone around who could fill that role.

Anywho, I'm a big-boy now. I'm living on my own and quelle surprise a student doesn't have a lot of money for adequate furniture. Since about age 12 - I'm 23 now - I've acquired a number of video game consoles (and some vintage computing, but that's not relevant here). Up until about a year ago, I had left much of them in my old room at my mother's, but she's decided to do a bit of remodeling now that I'm society's problem.

Due to my financial situation, what I'd like to set up isn't really possible. What I have is a 3 leveled Walmart TV Stand similar to the one linked below:

Then I have 2 of these book shelves, which cut holes in the cardboard-ish backing to accommodate cords:

And I also have one 3 cube organizer, similar to this one except mine has no backing and has no bottom rung, just two legs to the floor.

My primary concern is overheating. I'm relatively informed on the heating needs of modern consoles, but older ones I'm a bit in the dark about.

I need to place:

PS4
PS3 (fat)
PS2 (fat)
PS1 (Original)
Xbox One (slim)
Xbox 360 (slim)
Xbox Classic
Sega Master System (2) *
Sega Genesis model 1 (with model 1 Sega CD and 32x)
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
NES*
SNES*
N64*
GameCube
Wii
WiiU
Atari 2600*
Atari 5200*
Intellevision*
3DO (Goldstar Model)
NeoGeo*
S Four Thousand Pong Console*

*No real heat concern

(Let me add that I'm not a complete moron, they won't all be running at once or even all connected at once, this more of getting me into a position to plug and play without having to move too much shit around)

Believe it or not, it all fits, but I'm worried about ventilation on the shelves- in particular the book shelves which have some backing.

I've put the PS4, PS3, XBONE, 360, and Wii U on the top of the bookshelves. Not the top rung, but the top of the units themselves. Totally open air.

The tv stand is mostly consumed by the Ataris, the intellevision, and the pong console due to them requiring you have the console right in front you. My roomate's cable box (which I'm a bit sour about, but whatever I get tv) takes up a chunk. On top I have the television and the Wii

I am mostly concerned about the PS2, Xbox Classic, Gamecube, and Dreamcast

I am concerned, but less so, about the PS1 and Saturn. I think the most intense gameplay the PS1 will see will be Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 1-3. As for the Saturn, probably just Panzer Dragoon.

I am puzzled by the Sega CD and 3DO (I've only had the CD for a few days, and the 3DO has been a bit of a mystery to me since I got it. At the moment I only have Myst).

Am I running a severe risk putting these on the bookshelves, which do have an open face and I've cut holes in the backing?

Is there something else I should be concerned about?

Boy, that is a f*ck ton of consoles, lmao.

I don't think you should be all that concerned.
As long as you have atleast a bit of open space at the back where the fans are and what not, then I think you'll be fine. (that's if some of your furniture that you put the consoles on have open space at the back, but the covered ones, you still don't have to be so concerned)
It probably won't really overheat, if you have some open space
If you really are concerned, you can get some external usb powered fans or something like that at the back of the consoles to keep it cool
Some next gen consoles don't really have big issues of overheating no matter where it is
I have my PS4 tucked in at the bottom of my tv stand too and that doesn't even have...

I have my PS4 tucked in at the bottom of my tv stand too and that doesn't even have space at the back, just a hole to slip the wires through
I got my PS2 on top of my PS4, and a Wii mini next to it, and an original xbox with a ps3 at the top shelf holder, all with no space at the back
My console that overheats the most would be the PS3, but I put a somewhat of a stop to that by putting my Original Xbox somewhere else other than having such a chunky console take up so much space for the PS3 to breathe. The PS3 would literally be at the top of the xbox, and that would suffocate it lol

But, I think you should be fine. The PS2 and 360 are known for having overheating problems, but if you take such care of those two and all the other consoles, you have nothing to worry about. It can be very rare to have major overheating on those two. The 360 slim doesn't overheat as much as the classic white xbox, and for the PS2, my PS2 has been around since 2002 or 2003, and it still works fine. And it's literally on top of my PS4. But yeah, You can opt out and buy some fans and put them near the back of the consoles, that can keep them fresh.

Sorry if I couldn't really explain myself or give you much, but for real, you shouldn't be superiorly concerned. I'm sure you're not the only one out there that's done this, and I think I've done similar before. Just keep it a little open at the back if you can, if you can't its fine, just add some fans or something and turn them on and use the systems with them on, it should keep em cool, and just don't put chunky consoles on top or add small consoles on top of chunky consoles. It wouldn't hurt anything, but just make sure that the console that might happen to go on top of a chunky console isn't being suffocated because there's another console on top of it or it's being covered by the top of the shelf or tv stand. But overall, I think you should be fine. (You did put consoles on top of each other, which you seemed to have mentioned right? But for the small consoles like the PS3, wii u and 360, don't worry about those because they're not super fat)
