SSD keeps losing space (Windows 7 Build)

Hello,

I recently build a PC for home use (in September), with a dual SSD/HDD combo (250 GB/1 TB respectively) and everything seemed to run fine up until about a week ago, when after a major update I suddenly noticed that SSD had lost about 21 gigs of space, from about 139 gigs down to 118 gigs.

I ran CCleaner, which cleaned up about 1 gig, ran Malwarebytes (which came up with nothing), ran disk cleanup, which removed basically nothing, and then in my infinite stupidity decided to defragment the SSD using Windows 7's Disk Defragmenter, which restored about 10 gigs, up to about 130 gigs, having been unaware that you should never do such a thing (although when I ran disk analysis, it said that the SSD was 10% fragmented, which I read to be a decent amount to try defragmenting).

I then disabled Windows Update, but now I keep losing space (down to 126 gigs), with no clue what's going on. I should probably mention I ran the defragmenter a second time, and I also ran it on the HDD, but there's been no loss in space on the HDD that I can see. BTW, I'm sorry if this isn't the correct subforum to post this, it's my first time posting here and I'm not too familiar with the rules.

Oh, and my build:

Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB SC GAMING Video Card
Zalman Z3 Plus White ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Windows 7 Professional

Thank you in advance.

You should never defragment as SSD, it doesn't help it at all and wears down the drive faster. About your SSD losing space, go to system protection and see if your restore point disk usage is capped at something reasonable, around 10 gb or so.

Did as you said, system restore was hogging space, so I deleted most of it. Back to 130 GB, thanks.

Gonna keep on poking around to see what else might be taking up space, though.

If you haven't already, try running disk cleanup as administrator to clean up system files. You can also search up how to move the TEMP and TMP folders, default download location and the search index file. If you never use hiberate you can also turn that off to save space.

I do use hibernate from time to time, so I'll keep that, but running disk cleanup, it seems most of the space (about 4 gigs) is being taken up by files associated with Windows Error Reporting, which I assume to be a system critical function and thus should not be tampered with.
