Ok so here's the deal. I went searching on the internet for a way to install a new Mobo (MSI 990FXA Gaming with a new FX-8350 CPU) into my current build without having to reinstall/reformat my HDD, yet still be able to boot my current install of Windows 7. Well I found a solution and it was a simple switch of my HDD's boot mode from AHCI to IDE. Windows booted and I was able to install the new Mobo's drivers. Viola its running, but it appears not very fast. The problem is that I'm reading IDE is outdated, slower, and limiting if I wanna add/upgrade to an SSD. Is there a way to get it back to AHCI and still boot? Because when I simply switched it back in the BIOS, Windows wouldn't boot again. Also how do I clean out my old Mobos driver's? Last but not least, if I wanted to buy say a 128/256GB SSD, could there be a way to avoid all of this by installing a fresh Windows on the SSD and use a "caching" software with both drives? Would there be anything I would hafta do to the old HDD for this setup? Sorry I've asked a lot lol.

When you switch the storage mode in the BIOS, the PC will not boot, you have to edit the registry subkey. How to http://www.overclock.net/t/1227636/how-to-change-sata-modes-after-windows-installation

You have to do the reinstallation the OS. If you don't want to reinstall the win7, you can use the software to clone the win7 to the SSD, because some of SSD will come with that software.

Or free software if you had the WD HDD, you can get the "Acronis True Image WD Edition Software" http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=606&lang=en#WD_downloads if you had the Seagate HDD you can get the "DiscWizard" http://www.seagate.com/support/by-topic/downloads/ Keep in mind if you had some data on...

But we recommend to do the clear reinstall the win7.

After cloning you should try out the SSD to see your PC can boot or not before you clean up the HDD. If the PC can boot with the SSD, then you can clean up or format the old HDD.
