hello chaps,

i have a question about my new gtx970, my old 560 is almost dead so i bougth a new gpu.
the 560 had 2 6pins power connector but the 970 needs a 8 and a 6 pins connector
there is a 2pins connector (both cables black) but i dont know where is for.
can i put the 2pins with the 6pins connector in the 970 so i have a 8pins power supply?

thanks in advance

Yes. That is a 6+2 PCIe supplementary power cable. Two pins easily break away so it will be compatible with a card that only needs a 6 pin connector. If you attach 6 pins it provides 75W. If you attach 8 it provides 150W.

And now we have a problem. I failed to look at the...

And now we have a problem. I failed to look at the pictures. Please provide the complete make and model number of that PSU. It is VERY old. I have my doubts it will safely power a GFX card of that caliber.

sorry for the late reply
it is a HKC USP5550 (550W) https://www.mupload.nl/img/sqjpkg52lcorf.jpg

gigabyte ph67a-ud3-b3
intel i7 2600k
6 gb kingston kvr13333d3n9/2g

the thing is that the cpu is still good but other parts are outdated and crap.
i dont really now what to do, replace some parts and stick with the 2600k or buy a new pc
i used to be a fulltime gamer but now i study so i am only 2 days at home to game.

That's up to you and your budget. When you are decompressing(relaxing and letting out the week's stresses by escaping or just "being") while you're gaming it would be nice to have a more immersive experience. But that can get VERY expensive. My financial advisor(his name is Wallet) usually has the last word where my purchases are concerned.

As far as the PSU is concerned. Donate that to someone less fortunate or recycle it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016 will offer much better protection and power your new card SAFELY. That PSU will not. You have my apologies for not looking at your pic. Thanks to the near god-like SR-71 Blackbird for the assist.

this sounds maybe stupid but the psu in the link has less watt than the psu i use now.
if you want a more stable psu you have to buy a psu with higher wattage right?
I thought about 600w but not less that 550w

Stability and wattage do not walk hand in hand. The efficiency rating does, to a point.

My explanation for my recommendation? The 970 FTW calls for

REQUIREMENTS
500 Watt or greater power supply.
PCI Express, PCI Express 2.0 or PCI Express
3.0 compliant motherboard with one graphics
slot.
Two available 6-pin PCI-E power connectors

The unit I recommended meets or exceeds those recommendations. That PSU is the one that took up residence in my rig back in March of 2016. I have overclocked both my CPU and GPU and my system was stable.

Is it a high end PSU? No. Do I like and trust it enough to recommend it to someone else? Absolutely. Does it have a safety team in place to avoid collateral damage should a problem occur? Yes.

OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection)
