I purchased a used laptop which was presumed dead 4 months after the original purchase, with the intent to fix it up. It actually worked right when I bought it, but I soon found out that it was running "Slax" (a form of linux) off of a dvd. I also came to find out when I went to install windows that there was no hard drive. Luckily, I had a western digital blue 500 gb laptop 2.5" drive just laying around doing not much but holding files I rarely access or need portable, so I backed up the files to my main rig, and installed it into the laptop. Keep in mind, this drive has been slightly funny with me in the past (Not able to access some parts) but after running disk checks, found out that over 99% of the drive was still functional. Anyway, Windows failed to install the first time from disc, and the second time, and the third time, and the fourth time. Maybe even a fifth time. But I got it working (Win10) I set it up a bit, I.E installed a game, chrome, etc. I set a much bigger game to download overnight while streaming online radio from the laptop, and when I woke up, It was stuck on a screen saying "No bootable device found, please insert disc" (I can provide pictures if needed) So, to summarize, On a very slightly sketchy drive (but still very good) I failed to install windows several times before it finally worked, and I left it on overnight to find it telling me that no bootable drive was found. (Yes, I changed boot orders)

So does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks :)

Hey there, apersonthingy.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with your WD Blue HDD.

It really sounds like the drive's at fault here. What tool did you use to determine the drive's health is at 99%? If the HDD has accumulated bad sectors it's quite possible for you to be experiencing those issues.
I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different computer, to see if it's recognized and download DLG (Data Lifeguard) in order to run both tests (Quick and Extended) and see what's the situation with the HDD. Here's how to do it: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.

Please let me know how everything goes.
