Hello TH community,

i recently installed a new SSD on a new Alienware A51R2 desktop that just came with a 2TB HDD. I installed the new W10 OS and all the updated drivers clean on the SSD and initialized the HDD to use as just a storage drive, but when I use the SSD software (samsung magician) it says "AHCI mode deactivated" and "interface unable to detect", but under device manager it shows "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" under IDE ATA/ATAPI section and "intel chipset SATA RAID controller" under storage controllers.

- What I need is an experts assistance with being able to 100% confirm if my system has AHCI enabled (because I want this for the performance benefits) and if Samsung magician saying AHCI mode deactivated is just a bug with the software as I have come across a few threads in which Samsung magician sometimes had similar bugs, but I need to confirm for 100% certainty that its a bug with the software and that AHCI is actually enabled. From what research I've done it seems that if you go into device manager and see something like "standard SATA AHCI controller" that it means AHCI is enabled, but I'm not an expert and want to see if there are any other ways to know the AHCI is 100% activated.

- Moreover, I have come across many threads with steps on how to enable AHCI in the bios then reinstalling the OS, but because the system is an Alienware, it doesn't have the same range of options other UEFI BIOS' have, so this makes it very hard for me to check if AHCI is in fact enabled.

In short, can any expert help me with confirming for 100% certainty if AHCI is enabled or disabled so I can determine if the Samsung magician software is miss reporting information in saying AHCI deactivated? If it helps, when I had the SSD connected to the SATA2 connector and the HDD on the SATA1 Magician software showed AHCI enabled, but when I moved the SSD to SATA1 place (disk 0) and the HDD to SATA2 (disk1) it started to say AHCI disabled.

Thanks so much in advance for any help, and if necessary I can provide screen shots with the custom BIOS/device manager.

I am using the newest version 5 with the new updated interface and am still getting the Interface unable to detect and AHCI mode Deactivated. I have only ever had this issue with this version in fact and its a freshly installed W10 OS on the SSD

Weird. Maybe try getting an older version. You can get it form MajorGeeks or Filehippo.

Also almost every PC made in the past 10 years has come with AHCI Set on as a standard, and any PC that orgnally came with Windows 8 or higher DEFINATLY used it and also were more than likely a uEFI boot as well.

Yes, I've tried reverting to an older edition of the software as well. What I need is a way to get my SSD and HDD off the RAID controller and onto the SATA AHCI but due to my BIOS not having the option, I dont know how to do this.
