I have a 2 TB Toshiba portable hard drive. It has all my movies on it. (avi, mkv,mp4,etc.)
I use it on my desktop computer, my laptop computer, and my DVD players.
I tried to open the portable hard drive on my desktop and my laptop and access was denied. I can access the movies through the DVD players, still, but not the computers.
When I try to open the portable hard drive, a box pops up, and tells me it is "inaccessible"... "access is denied".
I don't understand what could have happened. My desktop has Win 7, and my laptop has the newest Win 10. I have not upgraded or made any changes of any kind to my computers.
I don't understand why I can still access the movies through my DVD players, but suddenly can't on my computers.
I can no longer add or remove movies from the portable hard drive on computers....only watch them through the DVD players.
By the way, my DVD players are a Phillips Blu ray and a Samsung Blu ray player.
I tried going to properties, security, and making me the owner, but it did nothing.
Can you please help me to fix this problem so I can, once again, access my portable hard drive to add and remove the movies?
I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you.

The DVD player does not see the file security on the files so can play them fine. About the security issue on the computers, something must have changed on the drive, think back to what was happening to the drive right before the issue started? Taking ownership should work, just make sure that you have "apply to sub-folders" selected.
